HAVE YOU HEARD FROM GOD LATELY?
“…then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant in
listening.”
I Samuel 3:10
We
frequently lament the amount of “junk mail” we receive and rejoice when we hear
from on old friend. But have you heard
from God recently? Unlike Samuel in our
reading, seldom do we actually hear His voice.
Does that mean that He no longer wants to communicate with us?
The
Bible is often referred to as “God’s word”. What does that mean to twenty-first
century Christians? Most people would
agree that it would be difficult for anyone to read the 23rd Psalm
without feeling that He is speaking directly to them. However, how about the other portions of the Scriptures? Are they letters from God to each of us? If you want to get a message from an Old
Friend, just read through any of the passages that begin with the word
‘whosoever’ and substitute the words that mean ‘me’ for whosoever.
John
3:16 is probably the most well known verse.
Read it through and substitute your name for the ‘whosoever’. “For God so loved the world that he gave his
only Son, that IF ____________________ believes in Him, shall not perish but
have eternal life.” (NIV) There are
many other examples in Scripture. These
are promises God has made to each of us; the Good News He wants each of his to
hear.
