Read: Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

“Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older he will remain on it.”         Proverbs 22:6 (Living Bible)

The choir director shepherded her flock of five-year olds into the sanctuary.  They were garbed in white robes, one of which I know for certain was a remnant of a Halloween costume from the previous month.  One angel had one wing missing and she was probably entitled some assistance though a celestial disability program.  Each of the angels carried a candle encased in a paper cup.  In their midst stood our daughter.  On cue they began singing, “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Going to Let It Shine”--- Our daughter sang with such gusto that her candle flickered and threatened extinction.  Fortunately, it remained aglow through all three verses.  We, as parents, wondered if the light she so enthusiastically proclaimed would survive the tempest years of her youth and the trials of her adulthood.

Fifty years later after numerous surgeries and chemotherapy treatments, our daughter may have forgotten her stage debut but she still professes that light.  As her parent, I thank Him for never allowing that glow to be extinguished.  At times, it may have flickered but is still burning brightly.  Thank You, Lord.
